Dear All,

It has been such a lovely week meeting all the new and returning students. We have had lots of fun settling into our new class, exploring the school and making lots of new friends. I have been so impressed with the kindness they have shown each other. They are working and playing so well together, it’s been a dream!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the bottom of this post there will be some important notices<\/strong> for the coming weeks – including a class trip! So please read to the end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day we explored the classroom to find all the things we’ll need for our year’s learning. The class worked together to find everything on the checklist – even some tricky ones like the calendar and clock!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also read the story “Beegu” and talked about what we can do if we have a problem. We discussed our connection box and everyone designed a piece of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Learning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All students completed a phonics assessment ready for their groups next week. The year 2 students also completed a Maths assessment to identify their level of support. We also jumped into our learning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Maths, we began work on Tuesday. We have covered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aut.1.1 – Count objects within 10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aut.1.2 – Represent numbers to 10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aut.1.3 – Count on and back within 20<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aut.1.4 – Understand 10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Due to assessments, Year 2 students didn’t complete all their workbook tasks for Aut.1.1 and Aut.1.2.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Literacy, we started reading our new book, \u201cLost and Found\u201d. We made our own little penguins like the one in the story, found a bag of clues and imagined being at the seaside!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homework<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Homework was sent home today in a yellow file. The students have one week to complete it and should return it next Friday. Feel free to put your library books in the same file, and we’ll change those on Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reminders and Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

P.E.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children have P.E. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please make sure they wear comfortable clothes and suitable shoes on those days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spare change of clothes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many already have, but we ask that parents bring a change of clothes that the students can keep in their lockers at school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Class Information Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday 2nd September at 11:00 AM I look forward to meeting all of you properly and sharing more information about the year ahead. The slides from the presentation will be on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Class Trip!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My class and Miss Staines’ class have a trip coming up! We will visit Hyundai Art Center Anthony Browne Exhibition on Wednesday 9th September (W3). We have been reading his stories throughout the week and the students are excited to see even more of his work. This will take place during the school day and students will be back for usual pickup. There is no fee required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
