Here are some highlights from the week&#8217;s learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In English, we continued our novel study of <em>Holes<\/em> by Louis Sachar. The students spent time creating a detailed character profile of the Warden. Building on this, they then explored the question <em>\u201cHow does Louis Sachar present the Warden as powerful and dangerous in this scene?\u201d<\/em> Using the P.E.E. (Point, Evidence, Explanation) technique, students developed thoughtful written responses. Following this, they examined the harsh conditions of Camp Green Lake, making notes which they later used to create scripts and short videos highlighting the horrors of life at the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week in maths, we explored function machines and how they help us understand number operations. The students learnt how to find outputs from given inputs and then worked backwards using inverse operations to find the missing inputs. We also began using diagrams and letters to represent operations, helping us to see patterns and generalise ideas. By the end of the week, the class was even able to identify the function of a machine when given a simple expression, a great step towards early algebraic thinking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In IMYC<strong>,<\/strong> we concluded our Brainwave unit. To finish, the students designed their own personalised <em>Mindfulness Toolkits<\/em>, reflecting on what they had learned and tailoring their strategies to support their own wellbeing. They also answered a set of reflection questions to consolidate their learning from the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year 7 Maths<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week in maths, we explored function machines and how they help us understand number operations. By the end of the week, the class was even able to identify the function of a machine when given a simple expression, a great step towards early algebraic thinking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Our next end-of-unit assessment should be on\u00a0Wednesday 24th September<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everyone\u00a0did very well on the first end-of-unit assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 out of 3 homework assignments were handled in on time this week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Year 8 Maths<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, students continued working through&nbsp;<strong>Unit 1<\/strong>&nbsp;and successfully covered the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aut.1.9<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Understanding \u03c0 as a ratio<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.1.10 (Higher)<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Understanding gradient as a ratio<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multiplicative change<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.2.1<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Solving problems involving direct proportion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.2.2<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Exploring conversion graphs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All these topics have now been&nbsp;<strong>completed and reviewed<\/strong>. A&nbsp;<strong>Unit 1 test<\/strong>&nbsp;has been set and given to students to check their understanding of the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students showed good progress in recognizing key mathematical relationships and applying them to problem-solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year 9 Maths<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, students covered the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aut.1.9<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Model real-life graphs involving inverse proportion&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.1.10<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Explore perpendicular lines&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assessment Test<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Unit 1 assessment was conducted to consolidate learning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.2.1<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 One and two-step equations and inequalities&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aut.2.2<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Equations and inequalities with brackets&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are steadily building confidence in handling equations and graph concepts, while also strengthening their problem-solving skills through the assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery
