Dear Parents,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope you had a great week. This week has flown in. You know what they say “Time flies when you’re having fun!” Let’s take a look at our learning from this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maths<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Maths, we began our new unit Multiplication and Division<\/strong>. This is often quite a tricky concept for students, but I\u2019ve been really impressed with how well they have been tackling their learning this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2 Objectives<\/strong>
Spr.2.1 Recognise equal groups
Spr.2.2 Make equal groups
Spr.2.3 Add equal groups
Spr.2.4 Introduce the multiplication symbol
Spr.2.5 Write multiplication sentences<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have used a lot of manipulatives on the tuff trays to really ensure the children grasp the concept of grouping before tackling multiplication. They had fun drawing, creating and building!<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Literacy, we had lots of fun writing about ‘Where Dragons Live’. The students created brochures about how to take care of dragons, using commands, exclamation marks, and question marks. We tea-stained our paper (which was so much fun!) and then rewrote our work beautifully for our class dragon display. The students\u2019 writing is coming on so well, and great progress is being made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In IPC, we started our new unit Look and Listen<\/strong>, learning all about sound and light. We explored lots of different sounds using music, instruments, everyday objects, our body parts, and some very fun (and very noisy!) birthday blowers – the children absolutely loved them! Next week, we will be learning more about how we hear and will be exploring the sounds around us. The students also made beautiful posters comparing night and day, which turned out lovely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parent\u2013Teacher Conferences<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parent\u2013teacher conferences will take place on Monday and Tuesday, 9th and 10th February. If you haven\u2019t made an appointment yet, please use the form<\/a> to do so. Report cards have also been sent home in your child\u2019s bag. I hope you enjoy reading about your child’s progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In PSHE, and throughout our daily classroom routines, we are focusing on developing strong teamwork skills, maintaining a positive attitude, and helping others. As a class, we have set a goal to be respectful, and we have been breaking down what this looks like in practice. The children have been using this idea along our class \u201cpathway,\u201d reflecting on their choices and behaviour in a thoughtful way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week, we will continue this work by exploring the obstacles we sometimes face and explicitly discussing strategies for how we can overcome them. This is an important part of developing the students\u2019 social and emotional skills, and it has been lovely to see their growing awareness and maturity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
