They have been working hard, showing a great attitude towards their learning, and demonstrating a willingness to get stuck into the routines and expectations of the class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, it has been a very encouraging start to the term. I am really happy with the progress we have made already and, most importantly, with the positive atmosphere the students are creating together. I am looking forward to seeing this continue as the term progresses!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Class Information Meeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would like to remind everyone that we have a <strong>Class Information Meeting<\/strong> coming up next week, on <strong>Thursday 3rd September<\/strong> at <strong>11:30am.<\/strong> This is an opportunity to understand what your children are learning throughout the next term, what the curriculum looks like, and for me to introduce myself and answer any questions you have. In doing so, they considered who Old Major was and why he is an important figure at the beginning of the novel and how he might become inspirational to the other animals on the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maths<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Year 7<br>Sequences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week we started out first unit on sequences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We studied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aut.1.1 &#8211; Describe and continue sequences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aut.1.2 &#8211; Find the next term(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aut.1.3 &#8211; Linear and non-linear sequences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aut.1.4 &#8211; Continue linear sequences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some things to know about maths in Year 7:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Year 7 maths is taught by Mr Green<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Homework is set on a Friday and due the following Friday<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All students should be able to access the entire curriculum for the year using their school account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each unit will be followed by an end-of-unit assessment which will be sent home along with the completed workbook<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Year 8<br>Ratio <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, students have been developing their understanding of ratio. We covered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understanding and using ratios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solving ratio problems when the&nbsp;<strong>whole, part, or difference<\/strong>&nbsp;is given<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplifying ratios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expressing ratios in the forms&nbsp;<strong>1<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>n:1<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comparing ratios and fractions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students have been working hard and developing their confidence in solving a range of ratio problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assessment Reminder:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our&nbsp;<strong>Ratio Assessment will take place on Tuesday<\/strong>. Please encourage students to review their classwork and practise ratio problems at home.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Year 9<br>Properties of Number<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This week, students explored&nbsp;<strong>factors, multiples, and prime numbers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They practised writing numbers as a&nbsp;<strong>product of prime factors<\/strong>&nbsp;and using prime factors to solve problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We also learned how to find the&nbsp;<strong>Highest Common Factor (HCF)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students worked through a range of problems to strengthen their understanding and problem-solving skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Please encourage students to review their classwork and practise these skills at home<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMYC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, students were introduced to their new unit: <strong>Celebration<\/strong>. For their Entry Point, they were tasked with researching how different cultures marked various concepts (Love, Birth, Death, Coming of Age, Achievement) with particular celebrations. They then compared this with other celebrations throughout the world and across continents, focused on the same concept. Students worked in pairs to collect information, research the celebrations, and present their findings to the class. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Humanities, students took this research further by investigating the reason behind specific <strong>historical events<\/strong>, considering why some history is still celebrated with important days today (e.g. Independence Day, Liberation Day, Remembrance Day). This helped students gain a broad understanding of historical events celebrated worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Science, students considered the atomic and chemical make-up of a cake. Utilising their prior knowledge of <strong>atoms, elements, compounds <\/strong>and <strong>mixtures<\/strong>, students were able to investigate answer the question: <em>What changes when we bake?<\/em> This helped them consider which changes that occur during the baking process are <strong>physical <\/strong>and which are <strong>chemical<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also began our cake <strong>baking experiment <\/strong>by looking at recipes with different ratios of ingredients. Students baked cakes while changing the amount of baking powder, eggs, and flour within a recipe to find out how this would alter the <strong>mixture<\/strong>. While waiting for the cakes to bake, they also initiated a side-quest to discover how to make buttercream and learned that a little food colouring can go a <strong>long <\/strong>way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next week, we will figure out what varied ingredients can do to the <strong>taste<\/strong>, <strong>texture<\/strong>, and <strong>colour <\/strong>of baked goods. week with circuits to practice a variety of skills, including volleyball, hockey, and juggling. They then moved onto the concept of <strong>moving together <\/strong>and <strong>coordination <\/strong>with others. Through traditional games, students have been developing their ability to move confidently, quickly and safely with others.
