Another short week packed with fun and sunshine!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is what we have been up to this week:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Year 6 students in the UK would normally now be revising for their SATs tests, the Year 6 students have completed all of the work required of them for this year. I have prepared individual study packs to help them revise for their End of Term assessments. These packs will allow them to recap and consolidate everything they have learned so far, helping to strengthen their confidence and prepare them for Year 7 Maths next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weeks 5 & 6 – Term 1 Review<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literacy  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Literacy this week, we read Chapters 6 and 7 and continued following Magpie\u2019s journey as she slowly begins to build trust with the Montgolfier family. We also explored how authors can show a character\u2019s emotions without directly naming them. For example, instead of writing that Joseph was \u201cworried\u201d, the children looked at how his pacing, sighing and rubbing his forehead could show his concern about his inventions failing. Writing about a person’s tone, body language and actions can tell us all we need to know about a character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students then used these skills in another dialogue writing task. Not only did they practise showing emotions through actions and body language, but they also continued using expressive verbs instead of relying on the word \u201csaid\u201d. Words such as \u201cmuttered\u201d, \u201csnapped\u201d, \u201cwhispered\u201d and \u201cexclaimed\u201d helped make their conversations feel far more realistic and engaging. These small changes are already starting to really elevate the quality of the children\u2019s writing and make their characters feel much more alive to the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPC <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In IPC this week, the children completed the presentations they began last week comparing different planets and discussing whether humans could survive on them in the future. Through these presentations, the children learned which planets might be the most realistic options for future space exploration and colonisation, as well as the many challenges humans would face living away from Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this, we moved on to thinking about what life on another planet might actually look like. Working in pairs, the children began designing their own future space colonies. They had to think carefully about who they would invite to live there, what jobs people would need to do, and how they would grow food and create a sustainable environment for everyone to survive. It has been really interesting seeing the children combine their science knowledge with their creativity and problem solving skills, and I cannot wait to see the final colony designs they come up with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
