  • Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T2 W8

    Happy Friday!

We had so much fun on our trip yesterday! We made cookies and picked some strawberries, turning them into jam! It reminded us a lot about our previous topic of solids, liquids and gases and how they can change state. I hope the strawberries, cookies and jam were delicious!

This week in Maths, Y3 started their new topic of mass and capacity after some fantastic fractions scores! We are learning all about grams and kilograms and how to measure them correctly. Y4s are just about to finish their decimals topic, with their test on Tuesday! We have learnt all about tenths and hundredths and how to multiply and divide them by 10.

In Literacy, we discovered all about how caves are formed! We wrote some fantastic explanations which will be part of our final writing piece all about the Blue John caves. We also practised some homophone spellings like grate and great.

In IPC, we looked at the process of creating inventions, understanding why things were invented and how we can think critically about the consequences of these new inventions. We looked at why the steam engine was invented and why it was so important.

    Have a lovely long weekend!

Welcome back after the Lunar New Year holiday! I hope you all had a great time.

During our time in school, we have started our new IPC topic- Inventions that Changed the World! We have learnt about inventions and which ones we think are most important. Then, we asked the school to vote on which invention they thought was most important in our survey. We also looked at the inventors behind the inventions and started our research.

In Maths, Y3s will finish fractions very soon! The test will be on Monday. Y4s are still working hard on decimals and will also finish next week.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T2 W6

    Hello everyone!

This week has been a super fun learning week!

In Literacy, we started our new book: Blue John. Hopefully the students can tell you now about what Blue John really is! We have imagined dark, eerie caves and described how it must feel to wake up inside one. We also listened to the music by Smetana which inspired the author to write the story! It was fun to listen to the music and draw how we imagined the music to look.

In Maths, Y4 have completed their fractions booklet and moved onto decimals! We have focused on tenths and how to divide decimals by 10. In Y3, we have continued with fractions, comparing them and putting them on number lines.

In IPC, we finished our topic of sound and light! We used our knowledge of vibrating air molecules and pitch from our lesson on Tuesday to make our own musical instruments! Hopefully you enjoy their beautiful songs they made at home.

In PSHE, we began learning about healthy lives and began our fitness challenge!

We had such a fun time at the Seollal Lunar New Year event on Wednesday. The hanboks looked so lovely and it was great to celebrate together. I hope you all have a fantastic Seollal!

    Happy Friday!

This week has been another fun week in Y3/4!

In Maths, both year groups are working on fractions. We have played fraction games and done some great work in our booklets!

In Literacy, we have been writing our stories about the Pompeii eruption of Mt Vesuvius. We have written so so much, and I am very proud of their hard work. I hope you enjoy reading them in the PTCs next week!

In IPC, we are doing many experiments linked to sound and light! We are learning how particles move when sound is created and how our ears and eyes work. There are so many scientific words to remember! We also went on a walk in the area to measure the sound in decibels.

It will be great to see you all next week in the PTCs! Also, our trip for this term has been organised, so details will be sent out shortly. Have a lovely weekend!

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T2 W4

I can’t believe it has already been nearly a whole month back to school!

This week in Literacy, we have been preparing to write our narratives, retelling the story of Escape from Pompeii. We looked at work from other students around the world and discussed what they did well and how they could improve. The most exciting lesson was making our news reports all about the eruption!

In Maths, we continued with our topics of length and perimeter (Y3) and fractions (Y4). We measured each other and how far we can jump! Y4s tried making a long line, matching mixed numbers with their improper fractions.

In IPC, we started learning about sound and light. It was so fun to experiment with all the different equipment and discover how our ears and eyes work and how sound and light travels.

An email about Parent Teacher Conferences was sent out recently! Some times are still available, so please complete the google doc to get your time!

    Have a great weekend!

    It’s Friday!

What a fun week it has been! We have been practising our team work skills to the max and even had a new classmate join us- Praneth! We hope he enjoys being in our class.

In Literacy, we have practised writing speech, linked to our current story. There are so many rules! The class did a great job though. We are getting close to writing our final piece!

In Maths, both Y3 and Y4 have started their new topics: length and perimeter (Y3) and fractions (Y4). Y3 have been practising how to use rules precisely and flew through their work! Y4 have been looking at mixed fractions and putting them onto number lines.

In PSHE, we started designing gardens for people who are disabled or underprivileged. It has been so lovely to see them thinking of others and working well as teams.

In IPC, we had our Exit Point- making milkshakes! We chose some soluble and insoluble ingredients to make delicious flavours. The colour of the milkshake was…. interesting but the flavours were fantastic.

We are also saying bye to Kano this week! The class are so upset to see her leave, but excited for her to move back to Japan and meet new friends. Good luck Kano!

(Soon there will be a sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences sent out- please keep an eye out!)

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T2 W2

    Happy Friday everyone!

It has been a super busy week here in our classroom!

In Maths, we have almost finished our current units. The class have worked so hard, so I’m hoping they do great in their tests.

In Literacy, we have continued to read and discover about the Vesuvius eruption in 79AD. We have learnt about a typical Roman life and also practised how to use present perfect tense. We have used our senses, thinking about what Roman life in Pompeii would look like, sound like, and even what it would smell like!

In Digital Literacy, we have begun our coding topic! We are learning how to use Scratch to make animations and fun stories.

IPC has definitely been exciting this week! On Tuesday, we made our own butter! It took lots and lots of energy and strength but we managed to make it and eat it afterwards. On Thursday, we learnt different method of melting butter and experimented to find the fastest and slowest methods. We finished the lesson learning about reversible and irreversible changes. I think they are excited about our Exit Point next week!

    Have a lovely weekend everyone!

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T2 W1

    Welcome back everyone!

It has been a super first week back in Year 3/4! It has been lovely to welcome our two new students, Owen and Stella into our classroom and get to know them. Also, it has been great to hear what everyone was up to during the winter holiday!

In Literacy, we have started looking at our new book, Escape from Pompeii. We love learning all about volcanoes and it is so interesting to discover about the destruction they cause. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary and imagined what we would see, smell and hear if we were living in Pompeii in that time.

In Maths, we have started our new topics. Y3 have started Multiplication and Division B, looking at counting in 10s and using previous knowledge to complete larger multiplication questions (e.g. 3×4=12, 30×4=120). Y4 have begun their perimeter topic, measuring shapes and adding together all their sides. They have all worked so hard to complete their booklets this week!

In IPC, we completed our milk entry point for Shake It! It was so fun to taste, smell and compare all the different milks and learn more about them.

It has been so lovely to see the students again this week! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W15

    Happy holidays!

I can’t believe it is the last week of term- these weeks have flown so fast!

This week, we have finished maths work and tests, wrote winter poems and completed all of our IPC Temples, Tombs and Treasures work. And, of course, prepared for and performed in the winter show! They did an amazing job and I hope you enjoyed the performance! They should be so proud of themselves.

It has been such a delight to teach the students this term- they are all so lovely and excited for their learning, which I appreciate so much.

After the holidays, we will be starting new topics, new books and even have two new students joining our class! We are so excited for them to join us!

Have an amazing holiday time and see you in the new year!

    Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W14

    Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is coping with the cold okay- the flu is definitely going around! It has been a busy week, preparing for the winter show and finishing everything ready for the winter holidays!

In Maths, Y3 have finished their first multiplication and division unit! They tried so hard and they should be proud of themselves. Next week we will have some revision of times tables and number facts, as well as completing some winter-themed maths activities. Y4s have almost finished their multiplication and division unit, and it has been a super challenging week! They have had to be resilient and use their growth mindsets to complete the lessons.

In Literacy, we have almost completed our diaries. The students have used some amazing vocabulary and have written so much! We will finish them by Monday.

In IPC, we had our final Ancient Civilisations lesson, looking at finding ancient tombs and artefacts. the students have been interested in learning about who should own the artefacts, so we had a debate and decided on our own opinions. It is a really mature topic, so I was impressed by their thoughts and discussions.

    Have a great weekend!
