Dear Parents,
In Maths, we have been learning to use arrays, make equal groups through grouping and sharing, practise the 2 times-table, and divide by 2. The children are beginning their first times table and learning how division works, so it can feel a little tricky at first. We will continue to practise these skills next week to help build their confidence and understanding.
In Literacy, we had so much fun creating creatures using recycled materials, and they worked amazingly as inspiration for the children’s writing. The students described their characters in great detail and showed wonderful creativity. We also learned the rules for forming the past tense (adding -ed, dropping the y and adding -ied, and just adding -d). The children then wrote imaginative diary entries about their journey on the Dragon Machine. Our current focus is using past tense correctly and including exclamation marks to make writing more engaging.
In IPC, we have continued our Look and Listen unit. The children have had great fun listening for sounds around the school, making vibrations, exploring instruments, and comparing outdoor and indoor sounds. We also briefly learned how hearing works: sound travels as vibrations through the air into our ears, causing the eardrum to vibrate. These vibrations are then sent as signals to the brain, allowing us to hear and identify different sounds.
Field Trip
We will be going on a field trip on 24th February to a strawberry farm and park. The details are included in the form that was sent home, please complete the permission slip to allow your child to attend.
Kites have been sent home for children to decorate and colour for our Lunar New Year event. Please return to school by Wednesday the 11th, along with the pens that I let the children borrow. 🙂 We will use them to display at the Seolnal event.
I look forward to meeting some of you next week for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Have a great weekend!
Take care,
Mrs Sim
