In December 2025 the school changed its name from Hyundai Foreign School to Ulsan Hyundai International School.
Why did the name change?
We believe the new name more accurately reflects who we are as a school, the type of education we provide, and the diverse, globally minded students and families we hope to attract. It signals our commitment to delivering a high-quality international education rooted in global values, while remaining proudly connected to our local context.
As part of this transition, the school is also keen to expand its reach and appeal to a broader range of clientele. While continuing to serve the families of HD Hyundai and other long-standing partners, we aim to welcome more families from across Ulsan, both international and local, who are seeking an internationally accredited education.
Why ‘Ulsan’?
The school is keen to emphasise our position as the only international school in Ulsan. Historically, we have been closely associated with the shipbuilding industry in Dong-gu, which has shaped much of our community and identity. However, moving forward, we are eager to broaden our reach and appeal across the entire city of Ulsan. By strengthening ties with a wider range of industries and local communities, we aim to reflect the diverse and evolving nature of the city, while continuing to provide a high-quality international education to both expatriate and local families.
Why ‘Hyundai’?
The school enjoys a long-standing and close association with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and it is important that this remains a key part of our identity. This partnership has been integral to our history and growth, and we value the strong ties we share with the company and its community. As we continue to evolve, we are committed to honouring and maintaining this important relationship while also embracing new opportunities for collaboration and outreach.
Why ‘International’?
We are an international educational institution offering an international education, and this should be clearly reflected in our name. We believe that ‘International’ more accurately represents our values, and the globally minded education we provide. The term also aligns more closely with international standards and expectations and better reflects the inclusive, diverse community we serve.
A Message from our Board of Governors
Welcome to Ulsan Hyundai International School!
To better reflect our role as the only licensed institution of international education in Ulsan and our close ties to HD Hyundai, our founder, we are proud to announce our new name: Ulsan Hyundai International School. Formerly known as “Hyundai Foreign School”, this rebranding marks an exciting new chapter in our journey that first started in Ulsan in 1982.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our current school community, alumni, and former parents for their kind support and encouragement. Please rest assured that we will continue to carry forward our vision of nurturing global citizens with a love of knowledge, tolerance, and compassion.
Our world today faces rapid technological change, global climate challenges, and unprecedented geopolitical and economic shifts. These realities call for new ways of thinking and preparing our students to thrive. In response, we are committed to boosting creativity and resilience while promoting critical thinking through our educational programmes. Our goal is to equip students with the skills and a flexible, international mindset needed to navigate the complexities of the 21st century with confidence.
True to the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” we believe education is a shared responsibility. We warmly invite all members of our community to join us in this worthy endeavour and would appreciate your continued support.
Thank you.
Ulsan Hyundai International School Board
