Mr Dunn’s Class Update T3 W10

Hello everyone!

A few reminders for the coming weeks. End-of-year reports were sent home today. Please make a parent-teacher conference appointment if you would like to discuss your child’s report or any aspect of their learning this year. Parent-teacher conferences will take place next Monday, the 15th and Wednesday, the 17th. Please use the following link to book an appointment: PTC Form.

We have enjoyed another exciting week of our ABC Countdown, packed with memorable experiences including outdoor learning activities, a special nature lunch, and writing letters to our future teachers for next year. Students also had the opportunity to celebrate their creativity by displaying their artwork in the exhibition organised by Ms Yuli.

English

In English, students have completed their narrative writing assessment and spent time editing and refining their work, focusing on improving vocabulary, structure, and accuracy. They then designed front and back covers for their stories and are now extending their learning by reading and discussing each other’s work before planning a sequel inspired by their original narratives.

IMYC

In Science, students explored genetically modified (GM) crops and debated whether leaders should allow their use to help address global food shortages. Using research and evidence, students considered both the benefits and concerns of GM technology before presenting and defending their viewpoints. We also linked to our ABC Countdown O for Outside Learning, students took their learning outdoors to explore flowers around the school environment. They observed and identified different flower structures, labelled key parts involved in reproduction, and learnt about their function.

In History, students explored Hitler’s foreign policy and examined how events in Europe gradually led to the outbreak of World War Two. Students created a timeline to track key events including Germany leaving the League of Nations, rearmament, the remilitarisation of the Rhineland, Anschluss, the Munich Agreement, and the invasion of Poland. Through discussion and analysis, students considered how different countries responded to Hitler’s actions and evaluated whether earlier action could have prevented war.

In Geography, students continued investigating how climate change affects countries around the world and used their research to create informative posters for display. They presented how different regions are impacted by issues such as flooding, drought, wildfires and rising sea levels, while considering how campaign groups use evidence and real-life examples to influence people and encourage action on global issues.

Year 8

This week, students compared distributions using averages and the range, developing their skills in analysing and interpreting data. They used measures of location and spread to compare different data sets and draw conclusions.

Students completed their assessment on this topic and also sat their end-of-year assessment. They approached these assessments positively and had the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts covered throughout the year.

Year 9

This week, students investigated graphs of simultaneous equations (Higher level) and developed their understanding of how pairs of equations can be represented and solved graphically. They also explored the representation of inequalities and learned how to interpret and graph solution regions.

Students completed both the unit assessment and the end-of-year assessment, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the topics covered and their overall mathematical progress throughout the year.
