New IPC/IMYC Units
New IPC and IMYC units are now beginning across the school, and there is already a real sense of excitement in classrooms.
In Year 1/2, students are exploring From A to B, investigating different types of journeys across land, sea and air. They will think like geographers, historians and engineers as they discover how travel has changed over time and imagine what the future of transport might look like.
In Year 3/4, the unit Inventions That Changed the World invites students to become historians and scientists. They will explore groundbreaking inventions from the past, consider how they transformed people’s lives and even begin thinking about the inventions our world may need in the future.
In Year 5/6, students are taking on the unit Champions for Change, examining how people and democratic processes can shape society. They will think critically about leadership, responsibility and how individuals can make a positive difference in the world around them.
In the IMYC, our middle school students begin the thought-provoking unit Risk. Through geography, history and science, they will explore how progress often involves uncertainty, challenge and opportunity, developing both subject knowledge and deeper international-mindedness.
These units bring together science, history, geography and more through engaging, inquiry-based learning. We look forward to sharing students’ learning journeys with you over the coming weeks.

Staffing for 2025/26
We are currently in the process of finalising staffing for the next academic year and would like to keep parents informed.
Mr Dunn will be leaving UHIS to take up a new position in Cambodia, and Mrs Sim will be moving to Jeju to begin a new role there. We thank both teachers for their contribution to UHIS and wish them every success in the next stage of their careers.
We are currently advertising for these positions and have received a number of strong applications. Interviews will take place in March, with appointments confirmed shortly thereafter. We will continue to keep the community updated as the process progresses.
Open Day
UHIS will be holding an open day for prospective families on Tuesday 24th February.
If you know anyone who would be interested in attending, please put them in contact with the Admin Office

Introducing MAP Growth Assessments
Beginning in Term 3, UHIS students will take part in MAP Growth assessments in Reading and Mathematics. MAP Growth, developed by NWEA, is an internationally recognised assessment used by schools worldwide to measure academic progress over time.
MAP Growth is an adaptive assessment, meaning the questions adjust according to each student’s responses. This provides accurate information about individual achievement levels and areas for development. The assessments are not graded and are not used in isolation; rather, they support teachers in planning, differentiation and the careful monitoring of student progress.
MAP Growth assessments will be administered twice each academic year, aligned with our existing reporting schedule. Parents will receive their child’s MAP Growth report alongside the mid-year report in Term 2 and the end-of-year report in Term 3, together with guidance to help interpret the results and understand what they mean for continued learning.
The introduction of MAP Growth forms part of our ongoing commitment to continuous school improvement. By using reliable, internationally benchmarked assessment data, we strengthen teaching and learning across the school. This initiative also reflects our commitment to keeping parents well informed and ensuring that UHIS continues to align with recognised international school best practice.
Further details about MAP assessments will be provided closer to the assessment time.
