Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W8

Happy Friday!

It has been another fun and exciting week in our class!

In Literacy, we wrote our letters to the Grandad in our story of Seal Surfer. We wrote independently and used some amazing vocabulary!

We are also so close to finishing our topic of addition and subtraction. Our test will be next week, and I think we are feeling rather confident about it! In the mornings, we practised our handwriting and spellings too.

In IPC, we learnt about mindfulness, focusing on mindful listening and eating. We listened carefully to the sounds we don’t usually hear and tried identifying food with blindfolds on. We also learnt about why some people find it difficult to be healthy around the world and why our muscles are important!

Have a lovely weekend! I hope the students are excited for Halloween and our class trip next week!

Happy Hangeul Day and happy weekend!

It has been a great week with a holiday and a day to the Grand Park! I hope you all received my email about the upcoming class trip. Please let me know if you didn’t.

In Maths, we have been practising written column addition and subtraction. We played games to remember the steps and they have done some super work in their booklets!

We have also been practising our spellings and handwriting and playing some fun word games in Literacy! Next week, we will be writing our own letters based on the story ‘Seal Surfer’.

In IPC, we experimented with our heart rate! We tested how exercise affects our pulse and how fast it takes to return to normal. Then, we researched the skeleton and the different names of the bones!

Yesterday we had so much fun at the Grand Park! We played so much, making new friendships and challenging ourselves to try new activities.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Hello! I hope you all had a lovely Chuseok.

This week we had a closer look at how our bodies work and what we need to do to keep our minds and bodies healthy. In PE, we stretched our muscles with yoga!

On Wednesday, we learnt all about our digestive system, looking at the different types of teeth and their uses. Then we followed the food all the way through our bodies!

We also enjoyed understanding how our ears and eyeswork and how as we get older, we get hearing and sight loss!

We finished this week off creating freeze frames about our current reading book- The Iron Man.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Hello everyone!

It has been a lovely week this week, finishing topics and celebrating Chuseok!

In Maths, we finished our Place Value topic, with some super scores in our tests! We are now moving onto addition and subtraction, which will last for a few weeks. We have also been remembering our 10x table with fun songs!

In Reading, we learnt a poem about our new book, Iron Man and performed it! It was so fun to learn some actions for the performance!

In PSHE, we discussed what would make a good friend and and made a banner with our ideas.

It has also been our Chuseok celebration this week! The student did an amazing job with their fan performance- it was so beautiful and graceful!

Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W3

Hello everyone! It has been a very exciting week for us this week!

In Literacy, we found out all about seals (linking to our story Seal Surfer) and wrote our own fact files about seals! We learnt so many interesting facts and made some amazing reports!

In Maths, we continued with our place value topic, ordering and comparing numbers and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. Rounding is quite difficult, so we tried our best and did brilliantly!

In Digital Literacy, we used the program Logo to try and program our turtle to make the numbers 0-9. It was a challenge but fun too.

In IPC, we continued our experiments in our topic of Bright Sparks, testing how adding and removing different components like lightbulbs and batteries affects our circuits. Who knew buzzers could make so much noise with an extra 4 batteries! We have also had some amazing homework shown to us from Vihaan, Owen, Bronya, Elena and Sofiia!

Finally, we had such a fun trip to see the Anthony Browne exhibit! We have loved reading some of his stories in our reading time and seeing the videos and images in the gallery made it so much more exciting!

Have a great weekend!

Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W2

Happy Friday! It has been a busy week in our classroom, experimenting and discovering lots of new things!

In Maths, we have carried on our journey of place value, looking at partitioning and reading numbers to 10,000 and remembering our 2 times table.

In Literacy we started reading ‘Seal Surfer’ by Michael Foreman, predicting what the book might be about and using prepositions to describe locations and times and give more detail. It was fun to use Where’s Wally to search for funny sentences! We also read the about the famous nursery rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’ in Guided Reading, practising our fluency and comprehension.

In IPC, we have started our topic of ‘Bright Sparks’, completing an entry point showing how we use electricity in our lives. We also learnt how to make a circuit and tested them with bulbs, buzzers and fans! We experimented with a variety of insulators and conductors, understanding why the bulb doesn’t light up.

We are very excited for the Anthony Browne art exhibition next week! Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Staines’s Weekly Update- T1 W1

What a busy, fun, exciting week it has been! It has been so lovely to meet our new students and get to know each other!

We started our maths journey with the topic of Place Value. We have been learning to represent and read numbers up to 1000. We also wrote a letter to future us! We asked them questions about our favourite hobbies, colours and wondered what we were doing this time next year.

To help make new friends, we played many cooperative games together and learnt all about our new classmates. It was fun seeing who likes the same things and remembering everyone’s names. We showed kindness and care when we made keyrings and cards for a random classmate, choosing their favourite colours and letters.

We finished the week with some Digital Literacy, Library and PE time, practising many different skills and having lots of fun with our classmates. We are excited to read our new books at home with our family!

Next Thursday (September 3rd) is our Class Information Meeting at 2:45pm. It would be great to see you all again and talk to you about the learning that will happen this year.

Have a lovely weekend!
