Mr Browning - 2026/27

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W8

Dear All,

The penultimate week before Halloween and half term! Thank you to everyone for bringing toys in for our electricity show and tell. Similarly a thank you to everyone who has completed the permission form for our trip in November. See below for more information on that if you missed it.

Maths

We’re back to place value and exploring numbers above 20. We have skip counted in 10s as well as introduced a place value chart to identify groups of tens and ones. Many of the students definitely found the jump a little tricky but have made tremendous progress. We will focus on this unit and go as slow as we need to ensure they have a solid foundation for the rest of the year. These are the units we’ve covered:

  • Aut.3.1 – Count beyond 20
  • Aut.3.2 – Count tens
  • Aut.3.3 – Groups of tens and ones
  • Aut.3.4 – Partition into tens and ones

Literacy & Digital Literacy

Continuing out exploration of London, we have zoomed in on several different landmarks of the city and used them to develop our vocabulary. The students have learned about adjectives and nouns, using them to construct expanded noun phrases to describe different aspects of London. Some of words they already know are so impressive!

Phonics continues! Next week will see all of our students confident in their set 1 sounds. Similarly, many of our students are moving on to set 3 sounds as well. Each group is progressing so quickly and confidently, it has been brilliant to watch.

IPC & P.E

On Monday we started our new IPC unit – It’s Shocking! We used a plasma ball to frame a conversation about electricity – what is it, how can use it, where do we see it in our lives? The students were well and truly mesmerised by it. Later in the week we had a toy show and tell, allowing us to consider all things batteries. Finally, the students drew and made a simple circuit. They learned the symbols for the components of a circuit and discussed how a circuit functions. It’s been a packed week!

In P.E we have been practicing our dribbling skills – improving their ability to bounce and catch a ball. This progressed into travelling with the ball and changing directions rapidly. We may have had some ball thieves to escape from as well!

Upcoming Trip

On November 6th (06/11/26), we have a class trip to Ulsan Science Museum as part of our upcoming IPC unit “It’s Shocking”. It’s a massive 5 floor museum with lots to see and explore. There is no cost involved.

Please complete this form by November 2nd (02/11/26) to confirm your child’s attendance if you haven’t already 🙂

Thank you all 🙂

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W7

Dear All,

Happy Hangeul Day! It has been an awesome week. Thank you to everyone who came to our trip to Ulsan Grand Park. It was a fantastic day with lots of climbing, bouncing and perfect weather. Somehow we managed to sneak some learning into this week, so take a look below.

You’ll also find some information and a permission form below about our upcoming trip on November 6th to Ulsan Science Museum. Please complete this form by November 2nd – I will also send a reminder email closer to the time.

Maths

We’ve finished this block and completed our assessments. You’ll get those back with their booklets next week, as we move on to place value to 100.

  • Aut.2.13 – Find the difference
  • Aut.2.14 – Missing number problems

Literacy & Digital Literacy

We’ve started our new book – Katie in London! It will get the students thinking about geography, landmarks and the concept of real information. Over the rest of the term we’ll build towards writing a fact file about London. To immerse the students as much as possible, we took a tour of London in Google maps! This allowed us to improve our keyboard and mouse skills, which we had developed by making some digital art, while checking out the sights. We also read the first part of the story together, and thought about what a noun is. We’ll learn verbs and adjectives next week, ready for some descriptive writing.

P.E

Continuing our theme of locomotion and basic movement skills, we’ve practiced our jumping. We played a game of jump tag using “the floor is lava” rules, before putting our teamwork to the test to cross the football pitch. Luckily everyone managed to get across safe and sound!

Trip Announcement

On November 6th (06/11/26), we have a class trip to Ulsan Science Museum as part of our upcoming IPC unit “It’s Shocking”. It’s a massive 5 floor museum with lots to see and explore. There is no cost involved.

Please complete this form by November 2nd (02/11/26) to confirm your child’s attendance.

Have a great weekend!

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W6

Dear All,

Welcome back! I could see everyone was refreshed and ready for a jam packed week 6. Take a look at what we’ve been up to.

Maths

Almost at an end of this block! We have explored a variety of methods for addition and subtraction, while considering the different ways we can construct number sentences. Next week we will consolidate this knowledge and assess, ready for Place Value to 100.

  • Aut.2.8 – Near doubles
  • Aut.2.9 – Add three 1-digit numbers
  • Aut.2.10 – Find a part
  • Aut.2.11 – Fact families – the eight facts
  • Aut.2.12 – Take away (how many left?)

It’s been amazing to see their progress in such a short time. They’ve worked their socks off!

Literacy & Digital Literacy

It’s been poetry week here! We’ve looked at a variety of poems and tried our hand at learning some nursery rhymes. They were a little scared to perform them but I was impressed at how much they retained! We made some rhymes of our own after, using the technique in acrostic and shape poetry. Since we’re starting our new book next week, “Katie in London”, we had some time to create our own double decker bus as well.

In Digital Literacy we considered how to edit our photos. This led to a lively discussion on how we can tell if a photo is real or fake. Feel free to test yourself using the picture below! Afterwards we edited our own photos. I suspect you can spot the changes.

IPC & P.E

We’ve wrapped up our first IPC unit Superhumans. As the last of our 5 senses we did a little science experiment with our sense of smell. First, they pinched their noses and ate a jellybean, noticing what they could taste. Then, they released their noses and experienced the jellybean again. We were all surprised how different the flavour is – try it at home!

To consolidate their learning, we ended the unit by imagining if we had super senses. What could we do if we had super hearing or super sight? They had such incredible ideas. Many future crime fighters in this class!

Finally in P.E we used our running in a team skills to play some invasion games. The students loved being beanbag thieves but I think loved being beanbag police even more. Next week we’ll begin practicing our jumping skills.

Have a lovely three day weekend 🙂

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W5

Dear All,

A smaller week but just as productive. Have a look at the learning this week before enjoying a restful weekend 🙂

Maths

Continuing the addition and subtraction unit, we’ve been looking at a wide variety of methods to add. This has included counting on, using blocks or base ten, number lines and more. I have been trying to encourage the students to independently use the maths materials when they need some extra help. It has been very useful for the following topics covered:

  • Aut.2.5 – Addition – add together
  • Aut.2.6 – Addition – add more
  • Aut.2.7 – Doubles

Literacy

This week we finished writing our own Lost & Found story! Many of the students were able to publish their stories for display – the rest will have some more time next week. They all worked so hard, using their best handwriting, finger spaces and full stops. After so much writing, next week we’ll focus on oracy and take a deep dive into poetry. They’ll explore lots of different types of poems and perhaps even make one of their own!

IPC

Finally, in IPC we used our ears to learn about sound! The students took a trip to the music room to try out different instruments and considered how we make sound, as well as different types of sound. After learning “high” and “low”, we discussed how sounds are vibrations in the air. With only 1 sense left, we’ll finish the unit next week, ready for “It’s Shocking!” the week after 🙂

Continuing our locomotion topic, in P.E the students put their running skills to the test in some relay activities! Working in teams, the class practiced how to “pass” quickly and efficiently, before putting it to use in some relay races. Everyone was able to beat their times and they were plenty tired by the end! Ready for a holiday!

Notices

As this is a holiday there will be no homework sent home. Last week’s homework can be brought in next Friday (02/10/26) as normal 🙂 As always books come back Thursday and homework on Friday.

Have a great Chuseok!

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W4

Dear All,

Has it almost been a month!? 4 weeks have blown by. From Chuseok to playgrounds to classrooms, here is what we’ve been up to this week:

Maths

As we’ve finished place value to 20, I have included their workbooks and assessments in their homework bag. See below the topics covered this week:

  • Aut.2.1 – Parts and wholes
  • Aut.2.2 – Systematic number bonds within 10
  • Aut.2.3 – Number bonds to 10
  • Aut.2.4 – Number bonds to 20

Number bonds to 20 proved a little tricky for some of us, so I’ve included extra practice on that in some bookbags.

Literacy

Having finished “Lost and Found” last week, we have begun writing our version of the story! We made a comic strip plan to reinforce the idea of a beginning, middle and end, before expanding on each of those. We’ll finish our writing next week, and hopefully have time to publish it properly on a nice card background. Stay tuned!

In phonics, we have worked hard in our groups. For students learning set 2 or set 3 sounds, we will do an assessment next week to adjust their book band. In our morning work, students have been using their phonics to write what they can see. Of course, we have also spent some relaxing time in our reading corner!

IPC

We have been busy in IPC! Continuing our look into the 5 senses, on Monday we created touch posters to explore different types of materials. The class explored lots of new vocabulary to describe what they can feel, such as “rough”, “smooth”, “soft”, “fuzzy” etc.

Later on, we considered what we can taste and the food we eat. We learned about different food groups and considered what makes a balanced meal. Together, the class sorted foods into groups and designed a healthy meal. They worked together so well!

Chuseok

It was wonderful to see so many of you for our Chuseok celebration! The class did so so well in their performance – not to mention the fun and games afterwards. I couldn’t be prouder.

And that’s all! Have a fantastic weekend 🙂

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W3

Dear All,

Another Friday, another week completed! Have a look at all of our learning we’ve got up to:

Maths

We have completed our first unit on place value (up to 20). We will begin addition and subtraction (up to 20) next week!

Aut.1.9 – Number lines

Aut.1.10 – Estimate on a number line

Aut.1.11 – Less than, greater than, equal to

Aut.1.12 – Compare numbers

Aut.1.13 – Order numbers

By using the manipulatives on the tuff trays and the application Sumdog, we have really pushed our learning. We have also got on our feet to create some human number lines!

Literacy

We have finished our story “Lost and Found”! The students really enjoyed it and were so excited to finally see the ending. It matched up well with our PSHE lessons on emotions. We sequenced the story and considered the different emotions the boy felt during his journey. Next week, they will plan their own versions of the story and how a different animal could create a very different situation – with very different feelings!

The students are progressing well with both their reading and writing. They are gradually getting more comfortable with the sounds and are applying them in their work. Well done!

IPC

After exploring all the 5 senses, we did a deep dive into just one this week – our sense of sight! We learned about the different parts of our eyes and how they can all look different. We put this knowledge to the test by recording the eye colours of not just our class, but Miss Staines’ as well!

This linked well with our digital literacy unit on photography. We learned the difference between landscape and portrait. After exploring the school to take more pictures, we thought about when it was best to do either style of picture.

Reminders!

Please return all books (Phonics RWI and Library) on Thursday – we will hand out a blue folder next week to help keep them separate. Homework can be returned anytime, but please bring their yellow folders back on Friday for next week’s RWI books and homework.

Thank you all for your support. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

All the best,

Mr Browning

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W2

Dear All,

Another exciting week! Thank you to everyone that came to the class information meeting. It was fantastic to meet or re-meet you all. The slides from the meeting will be posted to the website so you can review at your leisure. Also, for anyone who would like to get involved in our PTA community, we are looking for some PTA representatives for our class. Please get in touch if you’d like to be involved 🙂

On with the learning!

Our Learning

In Maths, the students are really getting used to the flow and routines. They’ve made excellent progress on their number formation and place value knowledge. On Friday we used the computers to practice our maths on Sumdog. We’ve covered:

Aut.1.5 – Understand 11 – 15

Aut.1.6 – Understand 16 – 20

Aut.1.7 – 1 more

Aut.1.8 – 1 less

Next week we will finish the first part of place value (numbers to 20) and begin addition and subtraction (up to 20).

In Literacy, we have continued to read our book and considered our favourite animals. The students wrote mini-fact files about their animals and we all guessed what animal they had written about. It was a lot of fun! We have also become researchers and learned all we can about penguins, so we know what to do if one turns up at our door!

This week the class has started our IPC unit – Superhumans! We had sensory stations set up around the classroom and the students explored their 5 senses. We then used those senses to explore an object and a place. As the students enjoyed the year 7/8/9 cake so much on Monday, we had no choice but to make another on Friday! Similarly, everyone went down to the garden to use our 5 senses there. Seeing all the bugs was a little scary for them!

Lastly, Phonics has begun this week. Everyone has worked so hard in their groups, so please let them wow you with some reading at home. Let me know how they’ve done in their reading records 🙂

Reminders!

Mr Browning’s Class Update T1 W1

Dear All,

It has been such a lovely week meeting all the new and returning students. We have had lots of fun settling into our new class, exploring the school and making lots of new friends. I have been so impressed with the kindness they have shown each other. They are working and playing so well together, it’s been a dream!

At the bottom of this post there will be some important notices for the coming weeks – including a class trip! So please read to the end.

On the first day we explored the classroom to find all the things we’ll need for our year’s learning. The class worked together to find everything on the checklist – even some tricky ones like the calendar and clock!

We also read the story “Beegu” and talked about what we can do if we have a problem. We discussed our connection box and everyone designed a piece of it.

Our Learning

All students completed a phonics assessment ready for their groups next week. The year 2 students also completed a Maths assessment to identify their level of support. We also jumped into our learning:

In Maths, we began work on Tuesday. We have covered:

Aut.1.1 – Count objects within 10

Aut.1.2 – Represent numbers to 10

Aut.1.3 – Count on and back within 20

Aut.1.4 – Understand 10

(Due to assessments, Year 2 students didn’t complete all their workbook tasks for Aut.1.1 and Aut.1.2.)

In Literacy, we started reading our new book, “Lost and Found”. We made our own little penguins like the one in the story, found a bag of clues and imagined being at the seaside!

Homework

Homework was sent home today in a yellow file. The students have one week to complete it and should return it next Friday. Feel free to put your library books in the same file, and we’ll change those on Thursday.

Reminders and Events
