This week, our students focused on building rich blue backgrounds for their artwork, exploring how to express different tones and depth using a single colour. Through layering and blending, they discovered how even similar shades of blue can create a wide range of moods and visual effects.
They also engaged in a hands-on activity using traditional Korean paper, hanji. By gently shaping the paper with their hands, students created small yellow forsythia flowers and carefully attached them to their backgrounds. This tactile process not only added a beautiful textural element to their work, but also helped develop their fine motor skills.
It was a joyful and engaging lesson, combining painting with craft-based exploration. In the next session, students will use ink to create tree branches, and we are all looking forward to seeing how their artworks come together.
