Our Year 1–2 students continued exploring Chuseok through Art. They learned about the traditional story of the rabbit on the moon, which is said to be making rice cakes under the bright full moon.
Inspired by this story, students created their own Chuseok lanterns. They explored the round shape of the lantern as a symbol of the full moon and used bright yellow paint to represent the warm glow of the moonlight. They also added a rabbit making rice cakes under the moon, bringing the traditional story to life through their artwork.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about Songpyeon, a traditional Korean rice cake enjoyed during Chuseok. Using clay, they carefully shaped and created their own Songpyeon, developing their fine motor skills while learning about an important part of Korean food culture.
It was a lovely hands-on activity that allowed students to explore Chuseok through storytelling, colour, shape, and clay.
