Hello everyone!
Please note that our class photos will take place next Friday. I hope to see all students in their school uniform for this occasion.
We also had a great afternoon during our trip to the Hyundai Cooperative Bank, where students took part in a finance lesson. They really enjoyed playing a game focused on tracking income and expenses, and it was a valuable, hands-on learning experience. Here are some highlights from the rest of the week’s learning.
Over the past lessons, students have continued their War Poetry unit by exploring new poems and developing their analytical skills before moving into their own creative work. After completing their study of additional poems, they began writing their own pieces inspired by the themes, language, and perspectives of war poetry. Students then edited and improved their work, focusing on using more powerful vocabulary, figurative language, and effective structure. To conclude this sequence, they started creating video performances of their poems, combining their spoken voice with carefully chosen WW1 imagery to enhance meaning and emotion.
This week in Geography, students took part in a trading simulation where they represented different countries and exchanged resources to increase their overall value. Through negotiating and responding to changing global events, they explored key ideas such as imports, exports, and global interdependence. The activity also highlighted how access to resources affects power and decision-making, and the students then reflected on this.
In History, students explored the experiences of enslaved people during the Middle Passage. They examined the conditions aboard slave ships, including overcrowding, disease, and lack of basic human needs, and used a range of sources to understand the realities of the journey. Students then applied their learning by writing a diary entry from the perspective of an enslaved person, focusing on both the physical conditions and emotional impact.
In Science, students explored the question “What is the solar system?” by learning about the Sun and the planets that orbit it. They researched key facts about each planet and created presentations to show their learning.
Year 8
Students have a Mathematics test on Monday.
Topics:
• Angles in parallel lines & polygons
• Sum.1.12 – Interior angles in regular polygons
• Sum.1.13 – Prove simple geometric facts (H)
• Sum.1.14 – Construct an angle bisector (H)
• Sum.1.15 – Construct a perpendicular bisector
Please ensure your child prepares well and comes ready for the test.
Year 9
This week, students learned Enlargement and Similarity and had a test on Monday. They performed very well.
They also worked on:
• Ratio and Proportion
• Sum.2.1 – Solve problems with direct proportion (R)
• Sum.2.2 – Direct proportion and conversion graphs (R)
• Sum.2.3 – Solve problems with inverse proportion
Students are showing good progress in understanding proportional relationships and applying these skills in problem-solving.
