Hello everyone!
It’s been a short but exciting week. We visited Ulsan Grand Park on Thursday and the students had a great time making the most of the nice weather. Find pictures from this at the end!
Upcoming Trip
We are preparing for a trip to Ulsan Petroglyph Museum on Thursday 22nd October as part of our IMYC unit. This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn about UNESCO World Heritage and experience a site in their local area. This trip will form part of a larger research project for the students.
Please complete the Permission Form by Monday 19th October to confirm whether your child will be able to attend.
English
In English, students continued their study of Animal Farm, considering Pilkington and Frederick as allegories for Britain and Nazi Germany during the Second World War. After finishing Chapter 8, students began exploring how Napoleon’s leadership continues to change and become increasingly authoritarian, considering why Orwell chooses to present this development and what it reveals about power and leadership. This will form the basis for their end-of-unit assessment in week 9. They also learned how to craft a thesis statement as part of a larger introduction.
It’s also fantastic to see so many of the students getting through their independent reading books.

In their Friday English Workshop, students took a break from formal analytical writing and focused on writing for pleasure and without the pressure of assessment. Using a spooky writing prompt, they experimented with descriptive language and the five senses to create their own four-part stories, developing atmosphere and suspense through their word choices.

Maths
Year 7
Place value, ordering and rounding
Students have been learning about the following topics:
- Aut.4.3 – Compare and order integers
- Aut.4.4 – Place value for decimals
- Aut.4.5 – Decimals on a number line
- Aut.4.6 – Compare and order decimals
Year 8
Coordinates and Graphs
Students have been learning about the following topics:
- Aut.4.7 – Introduce gradient ((y=mx))
- Aut.4.8 – Lines with a negative gradient
- Aut.4.9 – Lines of the form (y=x+c)
- Aut.4.10 – Lines of the form (y=mx+c)
- Aut.4.11 – Find the midpoint of a line segment (E)
Assessment Reminder: Students will have an assessment on the Coordinates and Graphs topic on Wednesday.
Please encourage them to revise all the lessons covered and practise the questions thoroughly.
Year 9
Area and Volume
- Aut.3.10 – Convert metric units of area and volume (E)
Students completed the Area and Volume topic.
The assessment was completed on Wednesday, and test papers have been sent home for review.
Well done to all students for their efforts!
New Topic – Equations, Inequalities and Formulae
- Aut.4.1 – Solve equations and inequalities
Students have started a new topic on Equations, Inequalities and Formulae. They will learn how to solve equations and inequalities using appropriate mathematical methods.
IMYC
In Science, students explored the process of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) and considered how it differs from natural reproduction. They investigated the different stages involved in IVF before discussing some of the moral and ethical questions surrounding the process. In particular, students considered genetic embryo screening and the implications of being able to select embryos based on particular characteristics, encouraging them to think critically about the possibilities and responsibilities that come with advances in reproductive science.
In Humanities, students brought together their learning from the past few weeks by creating a small poster about a celebration or commemoration from a country of their choice. Using the research they had gathered throughout the unit, students summarised the origins, development and significance of their chosen event. These posters will now form part of a classroom display celebrating the range of traditions and events they have explored.
PE
In PE, students continued developing their football skills, focusing on how to dribble, pass and control the ball effectively. They then put these skills into practice through small-sided games, where they had opportunities to develop their teamwork, communication and decision-making while playing.

Ulsan Grand Park
We had a great time at Ulsan Grand Park on Thursday. It was nice to have some fun outside of the school environment.
