Another Busy Week

Wow, two weeks done already and school is in full flow. Great learning happening all around the school and lots of exciting things being planned.

PTA Coffee Morning

Our PTA Coffee Morning took place on Wednesday 2nd September. Thank you to all the parents who attended and helped us begin the year with an opportunity to meet, share ideas and talk about ways to support school life.

An active PTA helps build a strong sense of community and school spirit by bringing families and staff together, sharing ideas, supporting school events and creating positive experiences for our students.

To get our PTA up and running we are looking for a Class PTA Parent Representative for each class and need volunteers. We especially need representatives for Mr Browning’s and Ms Murray’s classes. If you are interested, please contact the Admin Office. If we do not receive any volunteers, we may approach parents directly.

To help communicate and organise PTA events, we would also like to form a KakaoTalk group chat for each class. Once Class PTA Parent Representatives have been chosen, we will send details about how to join the relevant KakaoTalk group. Joining is voluntary and is a great way to keep in touch. The school will not share contact details without permission.

School Consultative Group Parent Representatives

We are still looking for parents who would like to serve as representatives on the School Consultative Group this year. So far, we have not had any volunteers.

The group plays a vital role in school governance and improvement. It is an important link between the school and the parent community, giving parents a formal opportunity to share views, ask questions and offer ideas, while helping the school communicate clearly and understand the experiences and priorities of families.

Parent representatives help to build a strong, open and positive school community, and we are keen to find a parent representative. If you are interested, or would like to find out more, please contact the Admin Office. The provisional date for the first meeting is Wednesday 21st October. If more than one parent comes forward, an election will be held.

Class Information Meetings

Class Information Meetings were held during Week 2 for Mr Browning, Ms Temple, Ms Murray and Miss Staines. Thank you to the parents who attended. These meetings provided an opportunity to hear about class routines, curriculum plans and the practical arrangements for the year ahead.

If you were unable to attend and would like to meet with a teacher, you are always welcome to book an appointment for a chat. Communication is key to working together to support your child.

School Bus Updates

Parents should check the school bus schedule again and review the School Bus Code of Conduct with their child. These reminders help us ensure that bus journeys are safe, respectful and pleasant for everyone.

Fire Drill

We held a fire drill on Friday 4th September. Everyone did a great job, and we now know the routines to follow in an emergency.

Bottle Cap Collection

Thank you to everyone who has brought in bottle caps for our art project. Mr Green has promised to buy ice cream for the whole school if we fill the collection bin. At the moment, the bin is approximately 2% full, so please keep going!

After-School Activities

After-School Activities have been introduced and will begin in Week 3. We hope students enjoy trying something new, developing their interests and spending time with friends after school.

After-School Activities Sign-Up

MAPS Tests

Students will be taking MAPS Tests in Week 3. MAPS Tests are assessments that help us understand what students currently know and what they are ready to learn next. They give teachers useful information about each student’s strengths and areas for development.

We use MAPS results alongside classroom work and other evidence of learning to plan appropriate next steps and support students’ progress throughout the year.

Students in Mr Browning’s class will not take MAPS Tests at this time. We may introduce them later in the year if we decide that they would be appropriate and useful.

MAPS results are shared with families in mid-year and end-of-year reports. Students do not need to do anything to prepare for MAPS Tests—the most important thing is simply not to worry.

Chuseok Celebration

We will celebrate Chuseok, an important Korean holiday, on Wednesday 16th September, starting at 1:45 p.m. Students will perform, and there will also be a special guest performance.

Parents are invited to come and enjoy the performances, try traditional Korean snacks and meet the school community.

As usual, students are invited to come to school on that day wearing a hanbok or traditional dress representing a country they associate with. Wearing traditional dress is entirely optional.

Virtual Tour

UHIS has a welcoming campus with great facilities that support learning, creativity, physical activity and community.

We have created a virtual tour so families can look around our school and get a feel for the spaces our students use each day. The tour will also be added to the UHIS website, giving new families an opportunity to explore the campus and learn more about UHIS before they join us.
