This week, our Year 1 to 2 students continued exploring portrait drawing while learning about contour drawing.
Students practised drawing a face using one continuous line without lifting their hand from the paper. This helped them understand how lines can be connected to form shapes and expressions.
They then worked in pairs and carefully observed their classmates while drawing each other’s faces. This activity encouraged students to look closely at facial features and express them through simple continuous lines.
After the observation drawing, students created a new sketch of the face on paper. They used ink to draw strong, bold outlines with a variety of thick and dark lines. Finally, they added colourful paint to complete their portraits.
The finished artworks captured a wonderful Picasso inspired feeling, with expressive lines and imaginative faces. Students showed great creativity and confidence while experimenting with this unique style of portrait drawing.
