This week, the Year1-2 kids began exploring our new topic, Feeling and Emotion, through a series of fun and creative activities.
They worked with their friends to carefully trace facial features onto transparent film paper, observing the shapes and details of the eyes, nose and mouth. This activity encouraged them to look closely at faces and develop their observation and drawing skills.
The kids also explored how our emotions can change and how different feelings can be expressed through facial expressions. Inspired by Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream, they learned about the artist’s powerful use of colour, expression and emotion. They then created their own expressive self-portraits, imagining how they might look and feel when experiencing strong emotions, just like the artist.
To finish, the kids enjoyed drawing their own emojis, experimenting with different facial expressions to communicate a variety of feelings. It was lovely to see their imaginative ideas, playful expressions and growing confidence as they discovered how art can help us understand and express our emotions.
