This week, students explored how to express different emotions through facial forms using paper. Instead of drawing, they created their work by cutting and shaping paper, which encouraged a more hands-on and experimental approach.
They learned about positive space (the parts that form the face) and negative space (the areas that are removed), and how these two elements work together to create a complete image.
Each student selected an emotion—such as happiness, sadness, or surprise—and expressed it through their own unique facial design. By cutting away parts of the paper, they discovered how the empty spaces can be just as important as the shapes that remain.
Overall, this lesson helped students move beyond flat drawing and think more deeply about form, space, and creative expression.
