This week, Year 5–6 began a new topic exploring the world of printmaking.
The kids were introduced to the concept of printmaking and learned how an image can be transferred from a prepared surface onto paper. They explored the key principles of printmaking, including image reversal and the ability to produce multiple prints from a single design.
For their first activity, the kids designed their own Korean names and carefully reversed their designs using tracing paper before assembling their paper printing plates. Through experimenting with printing, they discovered how their designs could be transferred onto paper in the correct direction and how the same image could be reproduced multiple times.
As an extension activity, the kids explored relief printing further by creating their own designs based on their favourite themes. They experimented with shapes, patterns and printing techniques, bringing their individual ideas to life through their own unique prints.
It was lovely to see the kids’ enthusiasm and creativity as they discovered the fascinating principles of printmaking and explored this new artistic technique.
