Dear Parents,
I hope you are all well and have had a good week.
Welcome
This week we welcomed James to our class. He is in Year 1 and is settling in well into our class family. It has been lovely to see him getting to know his classmates and becoming familiar with our routines.

Maths
This week the children have been learning about length and height.
Year 1 worked on comparing lengths and heights, measuring length using objects, and measuring length in centimetres.
Year 2 worked on comparing lengths and heights, ordering lengths and heights, and using the four operations with lengths and heights.
All children completed the end of unit assessment. As it was a short unit, we finished with the assessment this week and I am pleased to say that everyone did splendidly. Well done to all of the children for their hard work.
Literacy
In Literacy we have been enjoying our new story Major Glad, Major Dizzy and have been talking about heroes. The children drew pictures of their heroes (lots of mums and dads made appearances!) and wrote letters to them thanking them for all that they do.
Year 2 also practised using past tense and making sure they used the correct punctuation. We also worked on starting sentences with “when”, for example: “When I was hurt, they helped me.” and “When I was sad, they made me happy.”
IPC
In IPC we have been learning about maps. We went on a walk around the school to explore natural and man-made features. It was a fun walk where the children had to take photos on their iPads when given a task, such as “Take a picture of something natural” or “Take a picture of something man-made.”
Afterwards, the children created their own maps of the school grounds and learned how to make a key. They used their laptops to create symbols and keys using Canva. It was a tricky task, but the maps turned out great and lots of learning took place.
We finished today with some games and a chance to relax after a busy week.
I hope the children have a lovely weekend.
Take Care,
Mrs Sim
