Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you have all had a great week.
I will start by letting you know that we had special guests visit today, and the children were very excited. Dong-gu firefighters came to visit and make sure we evacuated the building safely. They were impressed with how the children conducted themselves and gave them a big thumbs up. We then spent time exploring the fire truck, and the teachers got to hose down Mr Green’s car (pretending it was on fire!). The children were very curious and asked the firefighters lots of questions. It was a great morning!
I have been busy planning our Term 3 class trip, which will take place on May 29th. We are going to Hanul Farm to learn all about animals, which links to our second IPC unit this term, “The Earth – Our Home.” I will provide more details nearer the time.
In Maths this week, we have studied the following objectives:
Year 1:
Sum.1.5 – Add equal groups
Sum.1.6 – Make arrays
Sum.1.7 – Make doubles
Sum.1.8 – Make equal groups – grouping
Year 2:
Sum.1.5 – Recognise a quarter
Sum.1.6 – Find a quarter
Sum.1.7 – Recognise a third
Sum.1.8 – Find a third
The children have been working hard despite being a little tired in the mornings 🙂
In Literacy, we continued reading The Last Wolf and had fun learning about contractions and how we can use them to give instructions. The children wrote a list using contractions of what not to do in the forest when trying to catch a wolf (shouldn’t, can’t, don’t). We made our own little contraction cards to help us remember them. I will send them home tonight, as the homework is related to this too. The children started preparing to write a short poem this morning about being in the woods, using verbs to describe how they moved (marching, strolling, jumping, swinging). Next week, we will develop this further, and I look forward to seeing the final pieces!
In IPC, we had our artist caps on and spent time exploring how we can use light in various ways. We took pictures, made glittery fireworks, and created pastel and watercolour paintings. Yesterday, we looked at day and night and used our globes and flashlights to explore where it is day and night and why this happens. It is a fun and exciting unit, and the children are really enjoying it.
That’s all for this week. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
See you on Monday for another fun week of learning.
Take care,
Mrs Sim
