Hello everyone!
The ABC Countdown has officially begun! The children enjoyed some ice cream on Thursday, and today was filled with brain teaser fun and problem-solving activities. It has been lovely seeing the students work together, think creatively and enjoy the special activities as we head towards the end of the school year.
Here is what we have been up to this week:
Maths
Year 5
Decimals
Sum.3.9 – Decimal sequences
Sum.3.10 – Multiply by 10, 100 and 1,000
Sum.3.11 – Divide by 10, 100 and 1,000
Sum.3.12 – Multiply and divide decimals – missing values
End of unit assessment
Year 6
As Year 6 students in the UK would normally now be revising for their SATs tests, the Year 6 students have completed all of the work required of them for this year. I have prepared individual study packs to help them revise for their End of Term assessments. These packs will allow them to recap and consolidate everything they have learned so far, helping to strengthen their confidence and prepare them for Year 7 Maths next year.
Week 7 – Spring Review
Spr.1 – Ratio
Spr.2 – Algebra
Spr.3 – Decimals
Spr.4 – Fractions, decimals and percentages
Spr.5 – Area, perimeter and volume
Spr.6 – Statistics
Literacy

In Literacy, the students completed their final writing assessment for our Sky Chasers unit. After spending time planning carefully, they wrote their own short chapters inspired by the story. It has been wonderful seeing them apply the writing skills they have developed throughout the unit, and I cannot wait to read their finished pieces.
We also began our new unit, Plastic Planet, which explores the use of plastic and the impact it is having on our planet. The students watched a range of videos linked to climate change and shared their observations, emotions and opinions about what they saw. They were also introduced to a selection of new vocabulary linked to the topic and worked together to create their own definitions. These words will be very important as we continue exploring the unit in the coming weeks.
IPC

In IPC, the students officially began our new unit all about climate change and the future of our planet. We started with a knowledge harvest where the children shared their current understanding of climate change, including its causes, effects and possible solutions. It was fantastic to see so many thoughtful discussions and ideas being shared between the groups.
The students also took part in activities which encouraged them to think about what the world could look like in the future if climate change continues, as well as what changes people can make to help protect the planet. We are very excited to continue exploring this important and meaningful topic over the coming weeks.

Have a lovely weekend! ☺️
