Ms Temple - 2025/26

Ms Temple’s Weekly Update – Term 3 Week 9

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather. A huge thank you to all of you for supporting our Global Food Day by sending your child to school with a delicious treat to share.

The students, and staff, had a fantastic time sampling foods from around the world and learning about different cultures through food. I am delighted to say that every single student brought something to contribute, which made the event even more special. It was wonderful to see the children sharing, trying new foods, and enjoying the experience together. It was a lovely way to end the day and a great celebration of the diverse community we have at our school.

Here is what Year 5/6 have been up to:

Maths

Year 5

Negative Numbers
Sum.4.1 – Understand negative numbers
Sum.4.2 – Count through zero in 1s
Sum.4.3 – Count through zero in multiples
Sum.4.4 – Compare and order negative numbers
Sum.4.5 – Find the difference

Year 6 have now completed all of their revision work and end of year assessments. They have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and should be very proud of all they have achieved. Their commitment, perseverance, and progress have been fantastic to see. Over the coming weeks, they will begin preparing for Year 7 Mathematics, helping to ensure a smooth and confident transition to middle school.

Literacy

In Literacy, the students explored the idea of sustainability and considered what makes a school environmentally responsible. They discussed whether our own school is as sustainable as it could be and shared thoughtful ideas about ways we could improve. The students then researched how schools around the world are working to reduce waste, save energy, and protect the environment. Using their research, they worked collaboratively in pairs to create informative leaflets that explained why sustainability is important and provided practical suggestions for how other schools can become more environmentally friendly. Throughout this work, the students developed their research, note taking, and non fiction writing skills while learning about an important global issue.

IPC

In IPC, the students explored renewable energy and learned why it is considered one of the most important tools in the fight against climate change. They investigated how different renewable energy sources can generate electricity without relying on fossil fuels and discussed the potential impact this could have on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Working in groups, the students researched one of four renewable energy sources: hydroelectric, wind, solar, or geothermal power. They gathered information about how their energy source works, where it is used, its advantages and disadvantages, and how it could help create a more sustainable future. The students then used their findings to create and deliver presentations, developing their research, collaboration, and presentation skills while deepening their understanding of a significant global issue.
